Affordable
Housing
Conference
of
Montgomery
County is to
bring
elected
officials,
housing, and
community
development
leaders,
business
professionals,
activists
and other
community
members
together to
address
affordable
housing
issues and
seek
solutions.
The
Conference’s
annual
summit draws
more than
300
participants
to hear
expert
panelists
and
speakers.
The
Conference
also
organizes
public/private
sector
Roundtables
and other
special
events to
highlight
the need to
create and
preserve
affordable
housing in
Montgomery
County, MD.

Biographies
of Co-Chairs
Barbara
Goldberg
Goldman
Ms. Goldman
is the
founder of
the
Affordable
Housing
Conference
of
Montgomery
County and
has served
as Chair and
Co-Chair
since the
organization's
inception 19
years ago.
She recently
served on
County
Executive
Ike
Leggett’s
Affordable
Housing Task
Force of
Montgomery
County.
Prior to
this, she
served on
the County
Executive
Ike
Leggett's
Transition
Team's
Housing Task
Force and
Governor
O'Malley's
Transition
Team's
Housing Task
Force. Prior
to the 2006
election,
Ms. Goldman
served on
the Housing
and Economic
Development
Subcommittee
of the
Governor's
Commission
on Housing
Policy.
Goldman was
a
Commissioner
for the
Housing
Opportunities
Commission
of
Montgomery
County from
1987 to
1998,
serving as
Chair from
1992 to
1997. A
graduate of
Leadership
Montgomery,
she owns and
manages B&G
Regal
Domestics,
Inc., a
national
employment
placement
agency
located in
Rockville,
Maryland.
She is also
a Principal
Partner of
Quorum, LLC,
a consulting
and lobbying
firm
specializing
in mixed-use
and
mixed-income
developments.
She also
sits on the
board of the
following
non-profit
organizations:
National
Jewish
Democratic
Council (NJDC),
Jewish
Community
Center of
Greater
Washington (JCCGW),
Jewish
Community
Relations
Council (JCRC),
Save a
Child’s
Heart (SACH)
and Maccabi,
USA. Under
the Carter
Administration,
Goldman was
an appointee
at the U.S.
Department
of Housing
and Urban
Development.
Prior to
joining that
Administration,
she was with
the National
League of
Cities and
the U.S.
Conference
of Mayors as
the Director
of the
Washington,
DC offices
for San
Jose,
California
and Lincoln,
Nebraska. In
the early
70's, she
was the
Legislative
Aide to
former
Congressman
Ron Dellums
of Oakland,
California,
and later,
Special
Assistant
and Speech
Writer for
former
Congresswoman
Barbara C.
Jordan of
Houston,
Texas.
Goldman
holds a
Masters
Degree in
Urban
Planning and
Policy from
the
University
of Maryland. |

Norman
Dreyfuss
Mr. Dreyfuss
is the
Co-Chair of
the
Affordable
Housing
Conference
of
Montgomery
County along
with Ms.
Goldman. He
has been
Co-Chair
since 2000.
Mr. Dreyfuss
is EVP and
Chief
Operating
Officer, of
IDI Group
Companies.
He is
currently
completing
the
development
of Leisure
World of
Maryland, a
multifamily
condominium
community
for
residents
over 55 in
Silver
Spring, MD.
He is also
responsible
for the
development
of Leisure
World of
Virginia, a
2,400-unit
condominium
community
for active
adults at
Landsdowne
near
Leesburg,
VA. Under
Dreyfuss’s
leadership,
IDI
undertook
the
successful
redevelopment
of The
Ambassador
Apartments
in Wheaton,
MD from an
aging Best
Western
Hotel into
162
attractive
and
efficient
single-room-occupancy
apartments,
working in
partnership
with
Montgomery
County and
the State of
Maryland.
Dreyfuss was
the 1996
President of
the Suburban
Maryland
Building
Industry
Association.
He is a
former
member of
the
Montgomery
County Task
Force for
Moderate
Priced
Rentals, the
Maryland
Governor’s
Commission
on
Condominiums,
the
Cooperative
Homeowners
Association
and the
Montgomery
County
Committee
for More
Efficient
Use of
Existing
Housing
Stock. He is
also
Commissioner
Chair Pro
Tem of the
Housing
Opportunities
Commission.
As of
February
2010, the
Montgomery
County
Council
appointed
Mr. Dreyfuss
as a
Commissioner
of the
Montgomery
County
Planning

Ralph
Bennett
Mr. Bennett
is
Vice-Chair
of the
Affordable
Housing
Conference
of
Montgomery
County. He
is Professor
Emeritus of
Architecture
at the
University
of Maryland
and a
Principal of
Bennett
Frank
McCarthy
Architects.
He is also a
Principal
Partner of
Quorum, LLC,
a consulting
and lobbying
firm
specializing
in mixed-use
and
mixed-income
developments.
He was
appointed to
the Housing
Opportunities
Commission
in 1992 and
served as
Chair from
1998 to
2002. He is
a member of
the land use
subcommittee
of the
Governor’s
Commission
on Housing
Policy and
served as
past
president of
the Potomac
Valley
Chapter of
the American
Institute of
Architects.
Bennett was
guest
co-curator
of a
National
Building
Museum
exhibition
entitled
“Affordable
