is pleased to announce the
Affordable Housing Design Awards and Exhibition Program
At the 2024 Affordable Housing Summit on Friday, May 10, 2024
Each year, AHCMC recognizes architectural firms for their ability to design affordable housing developments that are inclusive, efficient, beautiful, and sustainable. We display each year’s submissions at our annual Affordable Housing Summit, and recognize the best submissions with recognition and a cash prize.
CONTEST DETAILS
Eligibility: The program is open to architects who are members of the Potomac Valley Chapter, the DC Chapter, and the Northern Virginia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The architects and the projects must be located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Format: Architects are asked to submit projects as a 6 slide PowerPoint to ralph@bfmarch.com by Friday, April 5, 2024. A cover slide should include the identities of the architects, the sponsor, the project data including location, number of units and assistance programs involved. Winning projects will be projected during the Conference. Efforts will be made to project all entrant projects at an exhibitor location.
Project Eligibility: Architects are encouraged to submit any project which uses housing subsidy funds other than the mortgage interest deduction and which provides assisted housing to more that 30% of its residents.
Awards: A cash award will be made to the project judged best in the affordable housing categories of:
- New construction, defined as having been completed in 2019 or later.
- Renovation or rehabilitation of existing housing, completed in 2019 or later
- Accessory dwelling units (ADUs) entries in this category may either be in-house ADUs or free standing ADUs, also completed in 2019 or later.
Note: Entries in the renovation and Accessory Dwelling Unit categories must include “before” and “after” photos.
Entries will be exhibited and awards will be presented at the 33rd Annual Affordable Housing Summit to be held on Friday, May 10, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. There is no entry fee.
